Embarked Melbourne on HMAT ‘Hororata’, 27 September 1915. Embarked Alexandria on HMT ‘Themistocles’ and proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 14 November 1915; taken on strength of 2nd Battery, Gallipoli Peninsula, 21 November 1915.

Transferred to 4th Divisional Ammunition Column, Tel-el-Kebir, 21 February 1916. Taken on strength of 15th Field Artillery Brigade, 22 March 1916; promoted Temporary Bombadier, 26 March 1916. Transferred to 60th Battery, Ferry Post, 2 May 1916; promoted Bombadier, 4 May 1916.

Embarked Alexandria on HMT ‘Kalyan’ and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916. Transferred to 25th Field Artillery Brigade and taken on strength, 9 February 1916. Transferred to 5th Heavy Trench Mortar Battery and taken on strength, Sailly, 5 July 1916.

Admitted to hospital, 23 August 1916; rejoined unit from hospital, 25 August 1916.

Transferred to 5th Divisional Ammunition Column and taken on strength, 25 August 1916. Transferred to 25th Field Artillery Brigade and taken on strength, 23 October 1916. Embarked Boulogne and proceeded to England for further treatment, 14 November 1917; admitted to County of Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury, 15 November 1917; transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 24 December 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 14 January 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on HT ‘Dunvegan Castle’, 13 March 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 22 May 1918. Discharged on account of being medically unfit for continued service, Sydney, 20 July 1918 (myalgia).
