Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry at DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT on 5th April 1918. during a heavy attack in massed formation by the enemy, after heavy artillery preparation, this N.C.O. by his excellent leadership and splendid courage commanded his platoon with judgment and skill, reformed the broken ranks and inflicted very heavy casualties on the advancing enemy. He was wounded, but remained at his post controlling his riflemen and directing their fire. After the action he assisted in tending and removing the wounded under fire and only left the line for treatment himself when ordered to do so by an Officer.'
