'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations East of YPRES, 4th to 6th October, 1917. He followed closely behind the attacking troops dressing the wounded as they fell. When the Regimental Aid Post was established he continued his work in the open under heavy shell fire. Throughout the operations he showed a spendid example to those near him by his coolness and courage.'
