Military Medal 'For continuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This sapper has always, by his coolness, zeal and energy, set a fine example to his comrades. On the morning of 18th September, 1918 near LE VERGUIER, Sapper BARBER was attache to a party in charge of a bangalore torpedo. He went forward and made a reconnaissance of the enemy wire under heavy enemy fire and on his return gave a full and clear report as to its state, this information being of great use in the ensuing attack. After the attack he gave most useful assistance in the consolidation of the captured trenches.'
