'During operations at DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT on 28th March, 1918 for continued bravery and devotion to duty. On numerous occasions he was dispatched with important messages and in spite of heavy hostile fire - machine gun and artillery fire, he carried out his duties in an excellent manner. Whilst not employed as a runner he rendered valuable services sniping at enemy parties and also in assisting to get the wounded away.'
