Embarked Brisbane on HMAT 'Kyarra', 17 November 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 30 January 1917; marched into 4th Training Bn, 17 February 1917.

Admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, 15 March 1917; discharged to unit, 19 March 1917. Admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, 7 June 1917; discharged to unit, 11 June 1917 (psoriasis; shoulders). Proceeded to France through Southampton, 25 June 1917; marched into 5th Australian Divisional Base Depot, 26 June 1917; moved into the field, 11 July 1917; taken on strength of 41st Bn, 15 July 1917.

Admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, 7 June 1918, and transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station (influenza); discharged to duty, 15 June 1918; rejoined unit from hospital, 16 June 1918; granted leave to England, 26 August 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 12 September 1918.

Admitted to 11th Australian Field Ambulance, 29 September 1918, and transferred to 21st Casualty Clearing Station, 30 September 1918 (shrapnel wound, left leg); to 2nd General Hospital, Havre, 2 October 1918. Proceeded to England on HS 'West Australian', 23 October 1918; admitted to Reading War Hospital, 24 October 1918; transferred to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 16 December 1918; discharged on furlough, 10 April 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Marathon', 19 April 1919; disembarked 1st Military District, 11 June 1919. Discharged on account of being medically unfit for continued service, Brisbane, 10 January 1920 (amputated left leg).
