Admitted to 5th Divisional Rest Station, France, 26 March 1917 (influenza); transferred to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Doullens, 4 April 1917 (deafness). Transferred to England, 18 June 1917; marched into No. 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 20 June 1917. Attached for duty with Anzac Provost Corps, 4 July-17 October 1917. Attached to AIF Depots in UK for guard duty, 17 October 1917-4 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Ulysses', 18 January 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 10 March 1919; discharged, 22 May 1919 (disability: deafness).
