Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an intense gas=shell bombardment of his battery he removed his gas mask at imminent risk of his own life to pass orders to his battery, and enabled it to carry out the barrage. His example and behavior had wonderful effect on the remainder of the battery, who had been severely shaken. Although suffering from gas, he remained at his post until the action was over.'
