Admitted to A&NZ Hospital, Helouan, 20 November 1915 (bronchitis); discharged to Overseas Base, Heliopolis, 3 December 1915.

Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, Serapeum, 23 March 1916 (boils); transferred to 1st Australian Stationary Hospital, 25 March 1916; to 3rd Australian General Hospital, 25 March 1916; to Details Camp, Tel el Kebir, 17 April 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 7 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 14 June 1916.

Tried by Field General Court Martial, Havre, 28 August 1916: pleaded guilty to a charge of when on Active Service disobeying a lawful command given by his superior Officer, in that he on 23.8.16 did not fall in for escort duty when ordered to do so: awarded 42 days' Field Punishment No 1, and forfeited 47 days' pay.

Taken on strength, 4th Division Train, in the field, 7 December 1916.

Admitted to Casualty Clearing Station, 18 December 1916 (bronchitis); transferred to 9th General Hospital, Rouen, 20 December 1916 (bronchial pneumonia); to England, 28 December 1916, and admitted to Guildford War Hospital, 29 December 1916. Admitted to Fovant Military Hospital, 16 March 1917 (not yet diagnosed); marched in to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, from Fovant, 9 April 1917. Marched out to Draft Depot, Perham Downs, 1 June 1917; marched in to Army Service Corps Training Depot, Parkhouse, 4 June 1917.
