War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 21 November 1917; disembarked Suez, 15 December 1917. Re-embarked Alexandria, 18 December 1917; disembarked Taranto, Italy, 23 December 1917; by train to France. Admitted to Isolation hospital, Cherbourg, 5 January 1918 (measles contact). Proceeded to England, and marched in to 13th Training Bn, Codford, 24 January 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 1 April 1918; taken on strength, 14th Bn, in the field, 17 April 1918. Admitted to 12th Australian Field Ambulance, 4 May 1918 (not yet diagnosed, pyrexia); discharged to duty, 7 May 1918; rejoined Bn, 7 May 1918. Found guilty, 20 May 1918, of when on Active Service being absent without leave from 6.20 am, 9 May, until apprehended, 3.20 pm, 9 May 1918: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 15 days' pay.
