Appointed Quarter-Master and Honorary Lieutenant, 3rd Australian General Hospital, Abbassia, 1 March 1916. Admitted to Convalescent Depot, Ras el Tin, 22 June 1916 (diarrhoea); discharged to duty, 3 July 1916.

Embarked from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 25 September 1916; proceeded overseas to France from England, 18 February 1917. Taken on strength, 12th Field Ambulance, in the field, 27 February 1917; appointed Quarter-Master and Honorary Captain, 1 March 1917. To United Kingdom on leave, 3 December 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 19 December 1917. Mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig's Despatch, 7 April 1918.
