'During Operations near BONY from 29th September to 2nd October, this man took charge of the signal services of his Company when owing to casualties only he and one other signallers were left. He established and maintained continuous communication between his Company which was in the foremost line of the advance and Battalion Headquarters. On many occasions he went out under heavy shell fire and repaired broken wires and continually attended to his telephone under heavy shell fire with no shelter. His conduct throughout was magnificent.'
