Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a heavy bombardment of his battery a serious fire had broken out amongst the ammunition. The officers of his battery attempted to extinguish it, but the battery commander prevented them, considering the risk too great. Lieutenant Heenan, coming from another direction, did not hear this order, and extinguished the fire single-handed, and at the greatest personal risk from enemy shell, buring ammunition, and leaking gas shell, thereby saving a very serious situation, and setting a magnificent example to his men.'
