Military Medal 'On the night 21st/22nd August, 1918, in the vicinity of HAPPY VALLEY, this N.C.O. showed gallantry and devotion to duty under heavy enemy fire. He volunteered to bring in some wounded lying in shell holes in No Man's Land and with the assistance of Private NICKELS, in the face of heavy machine gun and artillery fire, brought in two wounded to the R.A.P. undoubtedly saving the lives of these men by his gallant act. His work throughout the whole day was marked by utter disregard of danger, determination and bravery.'
