Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry and determination. At Villeret, on 18 September, 1918, he twice led his section at enemy strong points, which were holding up the advance. He worked his gun to a flank, and, bringing fire to bear on the strong point, killed four of the enemy and took ten prisoners. Later, he led a charge against an enemy machine gun, firing his gun from the hip, and captured it, with seven prisoners. He did fine work.'
