Embarked Brisbane on HMAT 'Marathon', 27 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 9 January 1917; marched into 13th Training Bn, Codford, 10 January 1917.

Admitted to hospital, Parkhouse, 7 February 1917; transferred to hospital, Sutton Veny, 10 February 1917 (not yet determined); marched into 13th Training Bn, Codford, 2 March 1917. Proceeded to France through Folkestone, 10 April 1917; marched into 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 11 April 1917; moved into the field, 14 April 1917; taken on strength of 52nd Bn, 16 April 1917.

Admitted to 11th Casualty Clearing Station, 9 June 1917, and transferred to 4th Stationary Hospital (shell shock); transferred to 58th General Hospital, St. Omer, 28 June 1917. Proceeded to England on HS 'St. Andrew', 13 August 1917; admitted to Graylingwell War Hospital, Chichester, 14 August 1917; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 20 August 1917; discharged on furlough, 3 September 1917. Marched into No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 17 September 1917 (classified B1a1).

Found guilty at Hurdcott, 27 November 1917, of being absent without leave, 10.00pm, 16 November, to 24 November 1917: awarded a fine of 9 days' pay; forfeited total of 18 days' pay; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 28 December 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Euripides', 30 January 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 21 March 1918, for onward travel to 1st Military District. Discharged on account of being medically unfit for continued service, Brisbane, 12 June 1918 (shell shock).
