War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 22 December 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England 3 March 1917; marched in to 13th Training Bn, Codford, 4 March 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 14 June 1917; taken on strength, 49th Bn, in the field, 4 July 1917. Wounded in action, 26 September 1917 (bullet wound, right thigh), and admitted to 16th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred by Ambulance Train No 2 to No 7 Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 29 September 1917; to England, 29 November 1917, and admitted same day to 3rd Southern General Hospital, Oxford (gun shot wound, compound fracture, right femur: serious). Transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 2 April 1918. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Dunluce Castle', 8 April 1918; transshipped to HT Karoola', departed Suez, 27 April 1918; disembarked Sydney, 28 May 1918; discharged (wounded), 29 June 1918.
