Proceeded overseas to France, 11 November 1916; taken on strength, 32nd Bn, in the field, 25 November 1916.

Wounded in action, Somme sector, 9 December 1916 (gun shot wound, right shoulder), and admitted to 5th Field Ambulance; transferred to 20th General Hospital, Camiers, 10 December 1916; to England, 18 December 1916, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth (gun shot wound and bronchitis); to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 10 January 1917; discharged on furlough, 15 January 1917, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 30 January 1917.

Found guilty, 16 June 1917, of being absent without leave from 8 pm, 15 June, to 7.25 am, 16 June 1917: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 4 days' pay.

Admitted to Tidworth Military Hospital, 1 August 1917 (sprained right knee); discharged to Training Depot, 6 September 1917.

Found guilty, 5 October 1917, of being absent without leave from Tattoo Roll Call, 25 September, until 8 am, 5 October 1917: awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 20 days' pay.

Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 8 November 1917.
