Military Medal 'At REMUS WOOD east of YPRES during the operation of 4th October 1917 on the PASSCHENDAELE-GHELUVELT RIDGE Sgt. HILL displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as N.C.O. in charge of Linesmanen at Forward Bridgade Station. On three separate occasions he personally led his men through a very heavy enemy barrage and repaired telephone lines which had been destroyed by shell fire. He subsequently made several trips over this shell swept area, and it was chiefly due to his untiring efforts that constant telephonic communication was maintained with the rear Headquarters.'
