Statement, Red Cross File No 1331010, 699 Sergeant-Major A.E. HYNES, 31st Bn (patient, No 1 Australian General Hospital, Rouen), 20 March 1917: 'At Fleurbaix he was killed by M.G. Fire (sic) and the next day he and nineteen others were buried together. He was my mate and the Sgt. gave me the names of all those he had seen buried.'

Second statement, 577 Pte O.J. ALSBURY, 31st Bn: 'Cpl. Hill was killed by gunfire on 19th July '16 at Fleurbaix and was buried the following day in [the] Military Cemetery at Fleurbaix and [a] cross was erected over grave.'
