Embarked Sydney on HMAT 'Port Lincoln', 13 October 1915; taken on strength of 53rd Bn, Tel-el-Kebir, 16 February 1916.

Embarked Alexandria on 'Royal George' and proceeded to join British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 28 June 1916.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 20 July 1917; transferred to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 21 July 1916 (shrapnel wound, right arm). Embarked Boulogne on HS 'Cambria' and proceeded to England, 26 July 1916, and admitted to 3rd Northern General Hospital; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Sheffield, 4 December 1916; released on furlough, 28 December 1916; discharged from hospital to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 21 February 1917.

Commenced return to Australia from Devonport on HMAT 'Militades', 4 May 1917; disembarked Sydney, July 1917. Discharged as being medically unfit, Sydney, 4 January 1918.
