Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This man rendered peculiarly valuable service as lineman when many of the party of which he was one were wounded or shell shocked, remaining on duty for thirty six hours continuously repairing lines under shell fire of a very intense description. On another occasion, when several casualties occurred from gas, and he himself was suffering from its effects, he remained at his post and maintained about 2 miles of ground cable in a very heavily shelled area. His courage, endurance, and evotion to duty were worthy of the highest praise.'
