Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer. On the 26th September 1917 during the attack on POLYGON BUTTE he evacuated wounded under the most intense barrage fire with the only remaining stretcher bearer in his company with splendid bravery and great persistency. He carried on his work until he fell severely wounded.'
