Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the advance was held up by an enemy machine gun, he dashed forward, shot the gunner, and put the gun out of action. His gallant act enabled the whole line to advance, and the strong point was captured, with 100 prisoners. By his utter disregard of danger, he saved many lives, and relieved an awkward situation.'
