Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 6 August 1916; marched into Training bn, England (date not recorded).

Admitted to Bulford Military Hospital, 12 September 1916; discharged from hospital, 3 November 1916; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 53 days.

Found guilty, Codford, of overstaying leave from midnight, 11 January, until reporting to police at Paddington, 9.40 pm, 15 January 1917: awarded 96 hours' detention and loss of 1 day's pay; forfeited a total of 9 days' pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 28 February 1917; taken on strength, 15th Bn, in the field, 7 March 1917.

Admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 22 March 1917 (mumps); transferred to 1st Australian Field Ambulance, 23 March 1917; to Corps Mumps Station, 23 March 1917; to 4th Australian Field Ambulance, 14 April 1917; discharged to duty, 21 April 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 22 April 1917.

Admitted to 96th Field Ambulance, 8 June 1917 (myalgia); discharged to duty, 12 June 1917.

Wounded in action, 3 July 1917 (gun shot wound, leg and neck), and admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance same day, and transferred to 11th Casualty Clearing Station; to 8th Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 4 July 1917; to England, 17 July 1917, and admitted same day to Norfolk War Hospital, Norwich. Transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 23 August 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 August 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Borda', 26 September 1917; disembarked Sydney, 31 January 1919; discharged, Brisbane, 29 December 1917.
