'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in command of a company during an attack. He was wounded at the start, and again wounded on reaching the objective, but, finding the enemy on his flank had not been mopped up, he led a bombing section successfully, and joined up with the flank unit. He remained on duty until the consolidation of the new line had been completed before allowing himself to be evacuated. He displayed fine courage and determination.'
