Medals |
Legion D'Honneur : Medaille Militaire (France) 'For conspicuous bravery and determination during the action near POZIERES on August 21st and 22nd, 1916. C.S.M. HOLLAND'S Company attacked near MOUQUET FARM. The attack had only been launched a few minutes when all the officers became casualties; the Company obtained a footing in the objective, but the Company on the RIGHT were not successful. S.M. HOLLAND immediately organised his Company and began bombing to assist the Right Company but eventually had to retire to a position some 80 yards in rear. He was then subjected to very heavy shell fire, and had to withdraw his men, but remained himself with a small party of bombers. He then led a party to No Man's Land, and attended wounded, bringing them all back. By his coolness and bravery many lives were saved and severe casualties inflicted on the enemy. C.S.M. HOLLAND has previously been recommended for bravery, and has been in every engagement the battalion has seen.'
