'For outstanding consistent good work during the period 16th/17th September, 1918, to 11th November, 1918, in connection with his duties as N.C.O. in charge of the records of the 1st Australian Pioneer Battalion in the Field. Staff Sergeant BARNETT has shown marked aptitude and devotion to duty always carrying out his work in a conscientious and efficient manner. He has displayed exceptional organising ability on numerous occasions and his record of work which is perfect in its execution has been notably remarkable. A master of detail, and thoroughly reliable in his duty, Staff Sergeant BARNETT is mainly responsible for the records of the Unit having attained such a high standard of efficiency.'
