Meritorious Service Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty during the period 25th February 1918 to 31st December 1918. this N.C.O. has carried out the duties of the Quartermaster (on 1914 furlough) since 13th November 1918 in a most able manner. He has always acted for the Q.M. during the latter's absence, notably for a period of three months on the Somme in 1917 when the Q.M. was ill in Hospital. He has always shown signal ability and efficiency in his work. His duties have frequently been carried out under heavy shell fire and most adverse conditions. This N.C.O. has served continuously with this unit since its formation in February 1916, his example of industry efficiency and his whole hearted interest in the organisation of recreations for the men have been invaluable in maintaining the general efficiency of the Unit. I consider him most deserving of special recognition.'
