'On the night of the 19th/20th June 1918, at Morlancourt South of Albert during an intense enemy bombardment lasting 9 hours or more, Private HOUGH, stretcher bearer, showed exceptional bravery and devotion to duty. This man, after all the other bearers had become casualties, personally attended to the wounded, and, re-organising fresh bearer teams, had the wounded evacuated to the R.A.P. When the saps became impassable, he led his team over the top, and made numerous trips to the R.A.P. under very heavy shell fire. It was owing to his great devotion to duty that several very seriously wounded men were able to receive prompt medical attention, thus saving their lives. This man's work has always been of an exceptionally high standard.'
