Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 4 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in action, 19 July 1916'.

Base Records to father, 28 May 1918: 'In view of the fact that this soldier was posted "missing" for nearly twelve months it is probable his body was never recovered, and anything he had with him at the time of his death would have disappeared.'

Note on Red Cross File No 250205: 'No trace Germany. Cert. by Capt. Mills 10-10-19.'

Statement, 2793 Pte J.G. BLAIR, 60th Bn (patient, No 2 General Hospital, Calais), 13 April 1917: 'He [BARR] was "going over" with the Lewis Gun and had just got over the parapet when he was killed. This was at Fleurbaix at 6.45 in the morning. His body was never brought in.'
