'With a party of 34 Sappers 15 Infantry , Sapper HOWARD showed conspicuous gallantry and resourcefulness in operations destroying enemy wire entanglements with mobile demolition charges. Both [2780 G.E.] HILL and HOWARD laid and successfully fired charges in face of enemy opposition.'
