'On night 21st/22nd June, 1918, during minor operations near VILLERS BRETONEUX. This soldier, with Lieutenant ASHMEAD, led the rush into the enemy posts at the south east corner of the Hangar, bombing it as he commenced the rush. The bombs wounded some of the occupants of the post and Private HUGGARD impressed with the necessity of obtaining identification pursued one of the enemy for fifty yards. Unable to overtake him, he shot him with his revolver. Returning to the Hangar Post, he materially assisted in obtaining identifications and in thoroughly searching the post. As Scout to the fighting patrol, he had led the party in the advance to the lying up position twenty yards from the Hangar and, with Lieutenant ASHMEAD, was the last to return to our own line. He displayed able scouting on this and previous reconnaissance and showed dash and bravery as well as perseverance in the fighting.'
