Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at VAIRE and HAMEL WOOD, south east of CORBIE, on 4th July, 1918. These two soldiers [1321 J. INGLIS and 1169 J. WOODIER] attached to forward party as runners rendered valuable and continuous service throughout the operations. They went over in the first wave and though some lively opposition was met which enabled the cable party to fight its way through. Once the centre was established they continued to carry messages tirelessly and fearlessly for 48 hours and no enemy barrage was sufficiently strong enough to stop them. At the close of the operations Private INGLIS was wounded in the head. They both showed fine determination and set a fine example. Their task was rendered more arduous by casualties amongst the other runners.'
