Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France (date not recorded).

Wounded in action, 10 August 1916 (shell shock), and admitted to 44th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 15 August 1916; to England, 18 August 1916, and admitted to Bradford War Hospital, 19 August 1916; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 5 October 1916.

Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board HT 'Wiltshire', 12 November 1916; disembarked Fremantle, 25 December 1916; discharged (medically unfit: spinal concussion), Perth, 23 June 1917.
