Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He rushed forward and bayonetted two of the enemy attack. He rushed forward and bayonetted two of the enemy who were inflicting casualties on another unit with a machine gun. He then helped to rush a concrete blockhouse, where eight prisoners were captured. After the consolidation he did splendid work in leading carrying parties to the front line through heavy barrages. He showed the greatest courage and determination.'
