Military Medal 'During the operations east of YPRES on 4th October 1917 he was one of a party employed on the construction of a Strong Point near MOLENAARELSTHOEK. Whilst proceeding to the work his Section Sergeant was wounded, whereupon Cpl. JACKA immediately assumed his duties and responsibilities. On arrival at the site he assisted to reconnoitre the ground and mark out the work under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. He placed his men expeditiously and skilfully, paying attention to the best interests of the work and the safety of the party. He was ultimately badly wounded whilst in an exposed position directing the work.'
