'On the morning of 9/4/17 during the attack on Hermies, he displayed great coolness in assisting Lieut. PRICE to capture six Germans who had caused a lot of casualties by sniping. He afterwards did valuable work in the construction of a machine gun emplacement under shell fire as part of the strong point and set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty.'
