Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operation near HAMEL WOOD, east of CORBIE, on 4th July, 1918. This N.C.O. was in charge of A.M.C. details of the Battalion, and with utter disregard for his own personal safety during the advance, attended wounded in the open under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. Later when the R.A.P. was established he worked without any rest until late in the day assisting in the dressing of the wounded. By his magnificent conduct and perseverance he set an excellent example to his men as has been the case on all previous occasions.'
