'This man is a member of 13th Battalion Bombing Platoon. In the attack on the German trenches north west of POZIERES on 29th August, 1916, he displayed the greatest courage. He led his section with conspicuous ability ad was responsible for much of the good work done by the bombers on that occasion. He overed the withdrawal of "A" Company from the German trenches that night; he and his men putting up such a heavy barrage of bombs on the Germans that their advance was checked with heavy loss to the enemy.'
