Military Medal 'Near HEILLY, East of AMIENS, on 19th June 1918, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., there was very heavy shelling and a number of artillery men rant to the Bearer Relay Post for shelter. They said that they believed two of their comrades had been wounded at their Battery. Lance Corporal JAMES at once went out to render first aid, although warned by the artillery men that shells were falling at the Battery position in great numbers. He found two badly wounded men, one of whom was bleeding seriously. He rendered aid to the latter and probably saved his life. He then removed the two wounded to a place of comparative safety and returned to the Relay Post, collected his squad, and carried the two men to the Post. During the whole of this period shells were falling fast and one of Lance Corporal JAMES' party was wounded. His conduct undoubtedly saved a life and had an excellent effect on the men associated with him.'
