Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leaving the dressing station, to which he had been carried unconscious, and moving forward to the firing line, having collected on his way ten Lewis gun magazines for his company. He rendered valuable assistance in taking the wounded from "No Man's Land" and in carrying ammunition although severely wounded in the arm. He displayed magnificent courage and determination throughout the whole operation.'
