Meritorious Service Medal

'This N.C.O. is Company Clerk of B Company and has held this position during period 21st September 1917 to 25th February 1918. He has shown great devotion to duty and has done his job in a thorough and efficient manner. Previous to this date he was in the Lewis Gun section and went through all actions from Pozieres to Bullecourt. In this last named action he was strongly recommended for gallantry he being one of the last men to leave the enemy trenches and carried out a Lewis Gun. He has not had any previous decoration.' Second description reads: 'This N.C.O. has been with the Battalion since they came to France, in June 1916, and has been in every engagement from POZIERES to BULLECOURT as a Lewis gunner, on all occasions showing great gallantry and devotion to duty. Since BULLECOURT he has acted as company clerk and in this capacity has also shown great devotion to duty. He was especially recommended for gallantry at BULLECOURT, on 11th April 1917. He was one of the last to leave the German trench , and carried out a Lewis Gun. He has been recommended previously but has not received a decoration.'
