Military Medal 'For gallant and conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during the attack on LIHONS on 11th August 1918. This N.C.O. was a section leader and throughout the advance led his men forward with such a total disregard of personal danger as to inspire his men to follow him anywhere. during the afternoon when a very determined enemy counter-attack was launched against our position he again commanded his men with such an utter disregard of himself always using great judgment and coolness. The determined stand shown by his section under his splendid leadership was directly responsible for preventing the enemy penetrating our lines at this point.'
