Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an attack on an enemy position he behaved with great gallantry and initiative, rushing out of shelter to maintain communication with the battalion on the flank. When the objective was gained, he twice went out on patrol securing valuable information, and at daylight he went out and brought in some wounded men within 100 yards of the enemy's lines, under a heavy sniping fire. His complete disregard for danger set a very fine example to his men.'
