Military Medal 'Near WESTHOEK on 29th September, 1917, he was in charge of a small party making a splinter proof dressing station when the place came under heavy shell fire. All the other parties in the neighbourhood ceased work and took shelter but this Sapper kept his men at work for several hours and completed the job thus providing shelter for the numerous stretcher cases which had up until this been lying in the open.'
