Meritorious Service Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations east of YPRES in September, October and November, 1917. Corporal JOHNSON on numerous occasions during this period was in charge of transport for forwarding R.E. Stores, which had to pass through very heavy shell fire. It was owing to the splendid example and courageous actions of Corporal JOHNSON on many occasions that stores, which were urgently required, reached their destinations.'
