Military Medal 'At POLYGON WOOD near HOOGE on the 29th September 1917 No. 2936 Private C.H. JOHNSON showed commendable courage and determination in the execution of his duty. Although an intense enemy bombardment was progressing he carried S.O.S. signals to two Companies who were in need of them. On his return he again proceeded to the front line through the barrage and returned with valuable information which told where the enemy was massing. By his cheerfulness and courage he inspired all his comrades with confidence.'
