Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative near Peronne, 1 September, 1918. While moving his team forward he noticed his gun on the right had been blown out. He at once took men off his own team, and, collecting the guns, pushed them both forward to a position of great importance. Later, he salved a hostile machine gun and fired about 5,000 rounds into the enemy.'
