Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at VAIRE WOOD, south east of CORBIE on 4th July, 1918. When an enemy machine gun and occupied dugouts were encountered on the edge of the wood he organised and smartly led a bombing party against the position, killing 6 and capturing 2 of the enemy. The position thus falling into our hands. He set a fine example throughout showing no mean powers of leadership and initiative.'
